I went to see the Lone Ranger with a friend and decided to share my thoughts with the universe. I have read and heard much about the movie. I have to stipulate an important caveat. Whether book or movie or television if it entertains me or makes me laugh or is outstanding performance and has a positive resolution or happy ending (not mutually exclusive) I am going to like it.
If you are expecting a movie to take the kids to, this is not the movie. If you are expecting a movie similar or like the original Lone Ranger TV show, this is not the movie. But I loved the movie, it made me laugh, it was twisted, funny and when I still think about the movie this evening I laugh again. Now will it win awards or be remembered as one of the great summer movies of 2013, nope; but if you like Johnny Depp, love action and appreciate twisted humor and irreverence toward a mythic hero you will enjoy Lone Ranger!
I had the same reaction to this film (just posted my blog review at lastyearsman.com) I saw it with a friend and he liked it too. So my question is, if people are enjoying the movie, how come it is apparently a box office flop according to the media? Maybe it’s a generational thing and Gen X and Gen Y are not connecting with the humor. Or maybe westerns are totally out of fashion in this era of sci-fi and superhero blockbusters. Anyway, I enjoyed your review.
