Snapwire

I was thinking about hobbies and the potential to monetize hobbies. The ability to make a living from what you love to do is the goal of everyone. So to explore the potential of how to earn money from photography led me to discovering Snapwire.

Snapwire is an app to help photographers earn money. And in their words: they are a platform to help the next generation of photographers sell their photographs.

The idea of sharing my photographs caught my attention; so I have set up an account. I created a profile; participated in 4 challenges and even got a like. I love taking interesting photos that speak to me. Where this idea takes me, we’ll have to see. Be sure to stay tuned in for an update.

Feed the Spirit

Sitting next to the lake is providing inspiration.

Stone to pine to azure

Heat of sun to warm the chill in the air

Cold to heat the spirit

Peace of the view to heat the spirit

Sounds of nature versus civilization give perspective

My Spin – Lone Ranger

I went to see the Lone Ranger with a friend and decided to share my thoughts with the universe.  I have read and heard much about the movie.  I have to stipulate an important caveat.  Whether book or movie or television if it entertains me or makes me laugh or is outstanding performance and has a positive resolution or happy ending (not mutually exclusive) I am going to like it.

If you are expecting a movie to take the kids to, this is not the movie.  If you are expecting a movie similar or like the original Lone Ranger TV show, this is not the movie.  But I loved the movie, it made me laugh, it was twisted, funny and when I still think about the movie this evening I laugh again.  Now will it win awards or be remembered as one of the great summer movies of 2013, nope; but if you like Johnny Depp, love action and appreciate twisted humor and irreverence toward a mythic hero you will enjoy Lone Ranger!

Loss: Positive or Negative

384722_4378384736160_963743862_n

The expression of my journey with my sweet husband.

Loss has a number of definitions but the type I’m writing about is the loss of a relationship.  Regardless if the loss is from death, divorce, disappointment or change, the changes from the loss can work real changes both positive and negative.

As a blog whose theme is thoughts about life, love and laughter, why a commentary about loss?  Today is a special day.  Today would have been my sweet husband’s birthday.  He moved to the next plane of existence but I still think of him.  As I share my thoughts, I smile because my thinking about his birthday and him being gone does not always make me sad anymore.  I can visualize him telling me don’t be sad but celebrate life and in honor of his wishes I share a few thoughts.

Loss is a tool for positive or negative changes or justification to make good or poor decisions.  I have recently discovered that sometimes people do not always understand that they can cause pain and cause negative outcomes.  It is important for anyone who is experiencing a loss to remember that the only influences they should allow in their life is positive uplifting and not negative sabotaging people.

In my personal experience, the best cure for loss is to embrace the loss, remembering the good times and making positive powerful changes.

Last night, I got together with a girlfriend for dinner after work and she brought a box of pictures that included pictures of us since we first met. Wow, nothing like looking at a bit of time travel as we have been friends since we were teenagers.  But what it did, is that it got me to thinking about friendship and how many people come in and out of our lives on a daily basis but a true friend is always with you whether you see each other on a regular basis or not. The second thought is WOW, big hair should never come back!

vegan food pyramid adapted from recommendation...

vegan food pyramid adapted from recommendations made in “A new food guide for North American vegetarians” (2003) from the American Dietetic Association (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Earlier this year I wrote about my dabbling with being vegan part of the time, and whether I am vegan or not vegan.

More importantly to me is that my best friend as of tomorrow will have been vegan for 1 year.   As I have mentioned before, my friend is a true believer; she is not an occasional vegan, but is always faithful to her values and beliefs even when it’s not easy. For example, last Friday night, I observed her at a birthday party at an Italian Sports Bar.  The bar/restaurant is not vegan friendly, but she still managed to find a choice.   Personally, I will never be 100% vegan, as I am unable to give up cheese and I like meat in small amounts but I respect my dear friend and congratulate her on her one year anniversary.

My Spin – The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises

During the last week, I made time to watch the first two movies of the Dark Knight trilogy: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.  Earlier today like many fan boys and fan girls, I went to see The Dark Knight Rises and I was not disappointed.

The writing of Jonathan Nolan and Chris Nolan; and the directing of Chris Nolan created an action packed story filled with gut wrenching, emotional charged makes me say thank you for your vision and creativity and leaving the audience wanting more. Not to leave out the amazing cast of Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and many others gave us a performance the rewarded the fans for waiting patiently for four year for The Dark Knight Rises.

My overall thoughts of The Dark Knight Rises is that many blogs, newspapers, reviewers, fans and critics are writing about the movie.  My only comment is go see the movie because watching the movie this morning has only wet my appetite to watch the movie again.

My Spin – Monday, July 9, 2012

View from Topanga State Beach

It is always an intellectual journey to observepeople while multi-tasking: eating and typing on the laptop; all types of people, younger trying to read a HTC phone to a fellow laptop user to elderly woman reading a magazine to a business meeting taking place. I have a bird’s eye view of lovely fountain performing for everyone walking past. From my air-conditioned seat indoors, I enjoy the scenery at the Westlake Promenade.

Additionally I am pleased to comment that my in person customer service at the Social Security Administration office was a pleasurable experience versus the challenges of automated phone system and over the phone customer service.  Only one minor hiccup, did not notice the no talking on the cell phone sign.  Why would I notice the no cell phone symbol since it was next to the no Gun symbol? It was okay to text or play games on the phone but no talking, oops; I blamed in on my poor distance vision.

As your Monday progress or comes to a conclusion, find time to sit and enjoy your surroundings before rushing off to the next task or activity.  CIAO!

My Spin: Technology on a Monday Morning!

In theory, advancements in technology are beneficial until a normal person is trying to get information or get assistance.

For example, automated phone systems save money and help people obtain general information.  But if you are trying to retrieve information that is not typically a general question, hair pulling frustration is imminent.  Today, I have tried to get a replacement 1099 form from both State of California and Social Security.  The automated system of the State of California office did not connect me to a person but rather hung up on me two times before finally being connected to a live person. Even more challenging is after two call back attempts by the Social Security office; the customer service “challenged” person could not help me and now I am going to go in person to the nearest office.

As the child born to a boomer, I grew up appreciating technology as it advanced; such as, embraced the ability to have my computer at home even when it was not commonplace, embraced joining AOL in 1994, and embraced cell phones by having one since 1993. And you would think as we are in 12th year of the 21st century, the balance between technology, automation and human interaction could find a balance or maybe I’m in denial.

My Spin – July 4, 2012

As I collect my thoughts sitting in my neighborhood Starbucks postponing the job of unpacking boxes in my new apartment, I’ve decided to put thoughts to paper or in this case finger to keyboard.  The sun is finally starting to come out and the temperature is very mild. While listening to music, I am studying my fellow customers.  I am observing a couple sitting by the window are relaxing and chatting with each other, another customer is sitting at a nearby table reading a book, a group of teenagers just entered vibrating with a restrained excitement.   The exuberance the teenagers are exhibiting remind of the following quote I read Brent Hunter twitter feed:  “we live in the 21st century where literally anything is possible.  It’s irresponsible to be pessimistic in a field of infinite possibilities.”

Be inspired and find your infinite possibility! Transition of Life by Eve Smith
